From J to K: Baileys, Cigarettes, and a Sorority of Two

Nothing is more personal than being truly seen.

Graduating at thirty-five with a BA in International Relations, Janice had big plans of becoming a diplomat . . . or something. She definitely didn’t envision juggling two mind-numbing jobs as a salesclerk at Big ‘N’ Tall and as a customer service agent marshalling private pilots and the ultrawealthy to their jets.

But then she meets Kristina-a self-made businesswoman, a force of nature, and soon to be Janice’s hero. When Kristina walked into a room, heads turned. And remarkably, Kristina saw something familiar in Janice, bringing her on as Girl Friday Extraordinaire. Working together, Janice found an unexpected and intimate friendship. Never before had she held anyone’s secrets. Or trusted anyone with her own. From matters as seemingly trivial as the right shade of nail polish (“You want a solid color that says, I’m not flaky; I’m a woman who knows what she wants.“), to navigating worlds traditionally run by men, to how fake-it-till-you-make-it works . . . until it doesn’t.

For behind the brassy confidence, Kristina, too, was vulnerable, especially in the search for her birth mother, which tapped into a deep-seated need for family, for belonging-an ache Janice knew all too well. And unbeknownst to them, a series of tragedies would threaten their constructed worlds.

With searing honesty, sharp humor, and the oft-dismissed power of girl talk, From J to K is a bittersweet love letter of redemption and joy to all who face the path of self-discovery, and to the special someone who gifts us the necessary push to find our way.

REVIEWS

Morgan Baker – 5.0 out of 5 stars A love story of a friend

This is a love story from J to K. The friendship is deep, fun, and sometimes challenging. I was lucky enough to read some of it before publication and am so happy to see it out in the world so others can enjoy the adventures these two women had together. You’ll giggle. You’ll cry. Maybe you’ll wish you had a friend like these two had. They were indeed lucky.

Maria Grayson – 5.0 out of 5 stars A Memoir That Captures the Joy and Heartbreak of Friendship

In this deeply personal and beautifully written memoir, the author takes us on a journey through the friendships that shaped her life—each one unique, transformative, and, at times, heartbreaking. With raw honesty and a remarkable gift for storytelling, she shares the joys of deep connections and the sorrow of loss, including the poignant revelation of a friend’s passing that she never had the chance to grieve in real time.

Her storytelling is both tender and unfiltered, making this book not just a reflection on relationships but a testament to the power of human connection. She does not shy away from the complexities of friendships—how they evolve, how they fracture, and how they leave lasting imprints on our souls. Her life, rich with experience and adventure, is laid bare in a way that is both inspiring and deeply moving.

This is not just a memoir; it is a celebration of friendship, love, and the lessons we carry with us. A must-read for anyone who has ever loved, lost, and longed to understand the meaning of true connection.
