I am from Calgary, Canada where I completed high school. After studying journalism for a short time, I traveled to Mexico to do some lay missionary work. I ended up spending the better part of ten years traveling throughout the country, and resided in the states of Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca, and Guerrero where I taught English. As a result, I am fluent in Spanish.
When I returned to Canada from Mexico, I earned a BA in Political Science, International Relations in 1991. Soon afterwards, I met my husband, Paul, who is originally from Illinois (SIU) while working in the petroleum industry in Calgary.
We married and relocated to Houston in 1994 where we lived for almost 25 years. In that time, we have housed three rescue cats, six wonderful and wonderfully energetic Boxers, and have rescued and rehomed several Boxers thought the Houston area.
I earned my Master’s Degree in History from Sam Houston State University in 2006, and in 2007 I became a naturalized American citizen. It is my honor and extreme privilege to teach young college minds the story of this amazing and unique country. I am proud to call America and specifically Texas my home.
When Paul retired in 2021, we found our new home in Flint, Texas and like many big life moves, we wonder what took us so long. One can never say never, but I can’t see living anywhere else. We have found excellent neighbors and honest loving friends, a sense of community we never felt in the big city.
When I am not writing or teaching, I enjoy swimming, spending time outdoors, trying new recipes, and a bit of crocheting. I am a life-time student of piano, and a new student of the Bible. Paul and I love to spend our time together taking trips with our Boxers to new parks and natural settings.
On longer road trips when we board the Boxers, we love to explore the back roads and find new places and discover local eateries along the way. From the Rockies to the desert, From the Pacific Northwest to Mid-West to Virginia, we love to log miles in our travel journal. Our next planned road trip is to the northeast. I hear the lighthouses are fabulous to see!
